S.T.E.A.M.’d Up for Kids Takes Place Saturday at Powerland Heritage Park

Salem, Oregon – May 10, 2022 – Powerland Heritage Park’s annual S.T.E.A.M.’d Up for Kids event is this Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers will provide a fun and hands-on educational experience designed to stimulate the minds of youth mechanically.

"S.T.E.A.M.'d Up for Kids is one of the most unique events in Oregon for kids and families," says Michelle Duchateau, President of Antique Powerland Museum at Powerland Heritage Park. "Where else can you drive a heritage tractor, ride a trolley, see huge Steam Engines of the past operating, build unique crafts like mini-catapults, and visit up to 14 museums all in one location?"

Activities for S.T.E.A.M.’d Up for Kids include:

  • Scavenger Hunt

  • The Home Depot Kids Workshop

  • Sandbox with vintage toys/trucks

  • Drive a heritage tractor

  • Working sawmill demo

  • Wagon rides

  • Rope making

  • Steam Engine demonstrations

  • Trolley rides (additional fee)

  • Miniature train rides (weather dependent)

In addition to activities, families can see rare items at the plethora of museums at Powerland Heritage Park. For example, at the Northwest Vintage Car & Motorcycle Museum, visitors can view the oldest-known unrestored school bus in the United States, a 1919 Model T FORD school bus! At the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Museum, guests can witness the oldest-known Caterpillar diesel tractor left in the world – an Old Tusco SIXTY. At the Pacific Northwest Truck Museum, visitors can see the first truck Fred Meyer drove to deliver groceries.

S.T.E.A.M.’d up for Kids is an annual event at Powerland Heritage Park. It is a lot like a mini-version of the Great Oregon Steam-Up, but aimed at kids and probably more fun!
