APMA SAFETY GUIDELINES

 

The Safety-Security Team will consist of a representative (and an alternate) from each organization and museum group operating on the Powerland grounds.  This Team will have the authority to enforce the APMA Safety Guidelines throughout the grounds.  Team members will be identified by a colored vest and/or a Safety Team button.

  • Registration of all vehicles All non-licensed vehicles must be registered at the main office.  This includes, but is not limited to: all golf carts, ATVs, Gators, mopeds, pocket motorcycles, scooters, etc.

  • Only vintage/antique bicycles (including unicycles and tandems) will be allowed in the show grounds during show hours.  All other bicycles are prohibited during show hours on the Show Grounds and in all Campground areas.

  • Age of Drivers (and licenses required)

  • Tractors - Drivers of tractors must be at least 14 years old (per insurance requirement) An exception to this rule can be made if an adult is assisting in operating a tractor, and the tractor can safely accommodate two or more people

  • People Mover Tractor Operators - Drivers of People Movers must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver license OR People Mover drivers between 14 and 18 years old must have a valid tractor certification card.

  • Other vehicles - Licensed vehicles must be operated by a driver with the appropriate driver license for that vehicle.

  • Personal Mobility - Personal mobility devices for disabled individuals are exempt from license and registration requirements.

 

  • Maximum Speed for ALL vehicles is 5 Miles per Hour.  A Vehicle includes ALL powered vehicles operated on the grounds – such as trucks, tractors, cars, carts, ATVs, RVs, people movers, forklifts, powered combines, etc.

  • All tractors and equipment operating on the grounds must have a “kill switch” or other quick shut-off device located within reach of the operator.  The purpose of this rule is to provide a means of stopping the engine of the tractor or equipment quickly in the case of an emergency. 

  • All vehicle traffic must travel in a clockwise direction around parade route – service, staff, or emergency vehicles are excluded.

  • The main driveway will be one-way (southbound) for tractors and two-way for street vehicles.

  • All vehicles must stay on the designated road areas (exception for handicap mobility vehicles)

  • Vehicles are not allowed in the infield area except for brief loading and unloading, or moving a tractor to/from a parking spot in the infield area. 

  • Vehicles in the swap meet area are limited to a speed of 2 MPH (a normal walking speed).

  • During the Parade the roadways become very congested.  For this reason, No cars, trucks, or RVs are to move anywhere on the show grounds between 1PM and 3 PM (to allow for parade).

  • Under no circumstances shall anybody ride on a tractor while standing or sitting on the drawbar, sitting on a tractor fender, open tailgate, or on the tongue of any towed equipment.

  • Forklifts will be operated only by the forklift owner, or by APMA-approved operators.  All APMA safety guidelines must be followed when operating a forklift.

  • Engines and Tractors are to be attended by an operator at all times when the engine is running.  Steam equipment must be attended until the boiler pressure falls below 15 P.S.I.

  • The Safety-Security Team members have the authority to shut down any equipment that is either left unattended or operated in an unsafe manner.

  • For operating displays and equipment demonstrations, safety ropes or other barriers must be placed so as to keep a minimum of three (3) feet of separation between the public and the moving equipment.

  • No firearms are allowed within the show grounds.

  • No alcoholic beverages are to be consumed on the grounds during Steam Up hours.

  • No equipment is to be operated by any person under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants (including controlled substances and prescription drugs).

  • Fire extinguishers are to be readily accessible in each operating display area, and in other locations as required by the Fire Marshal.A designated loading/unloading area is provided for all equipment.  Large and small loading docks are available.  Do not Block roadways when loading or unloading (except with permission from the Board of Directors or Show Manager)

  • Exhibitors may park in the designated Exhibitor Parking Area, or in the Main Parking Area.  Exhibitors may not park in the display area, except for brief loading or unloading.

  • Camping will be allowed only in designated areas.

  • All pets are to be kept on a leash with the owner in attendance (do not leave a pet tied up unattended).  Owners shall clean up after their pets.
